Meet Shannon
Shannon Katcher’s journey into tech started with a passion for atmospheric science and remote sensing. While studying environmental systems in college, she discovered a love for technology through programming and specialized software—and that spark never faded. Her career path led her to the energy sector, where she now blends her dual passions for environmental research and cutting-edge technology.
Today, Shannon serves as Vice President of Digital Innovation at GTI Energy, where she leads cross-functional teams of research scientists, software developers, and IT professionals. Her role allows her to stay hands-on with technology while driving impact in decarbonization and energy innovation.
Outside of work, Shannon is a proud wife and mom of two. She recently celebrated 10 years of marriage with her husband, Brian, and is raising her 8-year-old daughter Kacey and 6-year-old son Ben with the same passion and energy she brings to her work.
Career Journey & Achievements
Shannon didn’t step into her current role—she created it. Recognizing the critical role digital technology would play in the future of energy research, she pitched the idea for a new department to her leadership team. Despite her nerves, her proposal was approved—complete with a budget, the freedom to build a team, and a mission to execute her vision.
Today, that team has grown to 30 members strong and brings in millions in research revenue each year to support decarbonization and energy technology innovation. Shannon is also currently leading her team through their first SOC 2 audit—a major milestone in modernizing a 90-year-old institution.

In her eyes, working in tech means writing new rules—often from a blank page. She’s continually inspired by the creative ways women navigate challenges, solve problems, and turn setbacks into momentum. For Shannon, innovation isn’t just about progress—it’s about forging new paths and bringing others along for the journey.

"I didn’t get where I am by myself. Many other people helped pave the way, encouraging me and helping me take up space. I am so used to being the only female at the table, and I’m tired of it! There are so many amazing women out there, and I intend to pay it all forward, making sure others spread their elbows and make way for themselves too! I’m grateful for all the support I’ve had and wouldn’t be anywhere without it."
